The process of strain gauging involves the application of small strain sensors to the areas that need to be measured. Data acquisition equipment is then used to measure the strains when product or structure is in use. This is a non-destructive technique that generally does not affect your normal daily operations.

Residual stresses exist in nearly every structure, particularly when they have been highly formed or have been subjected to non-uniform heat processes such as welding. These residual stresses can lead premature fatigue or other failures such as stress corrosion cracking.
Aquila Engineering has conducted residual stress measurement using strain gauge techniques. We can conduct on-site or in the field measurements to assist your projects.
Finite element modelling is a vital tool for assessing the internal load distribution within simple and complex structures. Aquila continues to use Siemens FEMAP with NX NASTRAN software for all our FE needs and we have multiple operators trained and regularly using the software. Whether it is a small bracket or a whole aircraft structure Aquila can structurally model your product.
Metal fatigue in structures can lead to unscheduled and sometimes dangerous failures. Aquila Engineering has spent hundreds of hours doing crack initiation and crack growth prediction for metallic structures to help determine the safe operating life of various components. We continue to use a combination of finite element modelling and dedicated fatigue software such as Structcode (with Franc2D) and AFGROW.
Vibration in a structure can lead to premature fatigue and it can be physically annoying for the humans exposed to the constant movement. Vibration measurement, in combination with strain measurement, can help determine the vibration sources, the response of the structure and help to establish re-development plans.
The modern manufacturing environment demands that all parts are modelled in 3D CAD to allow rapid development/prototyping and for subsequent use in other simulation software such as finite element modelling. Aquila Engineering chooses to use both Siemens NX and Solidworks for 3D CAD allowing us to better integrate with the software of our various clients.
Every new product needs support manuals to show how it is to be operated, maintained and modified. Our staff are experienced in writing technical publication procedures and developing illustrations to support the publications. We are choosing to use Arbotex Isodraw for illustration development and Adobe Framemaker software for publication management.
